Reclaiming Outcomes for Teacher Education in Missouri

March 27-29, 2017

We currently reside in an era in where outcomes are expected; yet the work of teacher education is constantly challenged. Pam Grossman noted that if university-based teacher education is to survive the challenges levied toward it:

we must not make the mistake of dismissing these challenges as a passing phase or presuming that these criticisms only come rom people who do not understand the complexities of teaching and teacher education or who do not care about children and teachers…we cannot assume that because we have held jurisdiction over the preparation of teachers in the past, we will continue to maintain our authority in this area”

In order for the teacher education profession in Missouri to assert itself, we must make strides toward defining for ourselves the outcomes that we most desire for our programs and K-12 schools in Missouri.  The spring 2017 MACTE conference will focus on how Missouri teacher education can reclaim the narrative around outcomes in this era of unforgiving accountability. The spring 2017 conference will also feature the presentation of the Outstanding Beginning Teacher Awards.
