Keynote Abstract
Teaching From a Full Vessel: Strategies for Sustaining Educators:
The well-being of teachers—both physically and psychologically—plays a pivotal role in their effectiveness and overall job satisfaction. Prioritizing well-being not only benefits educators but also significantly influences student learning outcomes. In today’s teaching profession, several challenges compound the demands on teachers that can have a negative impact on their well-being. They include such things as the lingering effects of the pandemic, an increased workload, student mental health issues, policy changes, and personal and professional financial strains. Given these daunting challenges, it is important to understand that investing in well-being isn’t a luxury; it’s a strategic advantage for navigating life’s complexities.
This presentation aims to equip teachers with evidence-based strategies for self-care. We’ll delve into the latest research, principles, and practices, covering both physical (sleep, movement, and nutrition) and psychological (positive emotions, personal strengths, gratitude, optimism, and mindfulness) aspects of well-being. By fostering resilience through self-care, teachers can positively impact their own lives and, in turn, enhance student experiences. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish—it’s an investment in sustainable teaching excellence.
