Update: State Board of Education Meting [8 Dec 2020]

MACTE Members, the State Board meets tomorrow; agenda items of interest include rulemaking regarding charter school sponsorship and a request to suspend accountability for 2021 testing, as well as micro-credentialing for school leaders.  The agenda can be found here:

Please make sure to send your public comments regarding the cumulative GPA requirements before the end of the month.  Information about that is included below; I apologize for the repeated information, but it is crucial every MACTE member submit a comment.  We anticipate resistance to this proposal because some believe this is lowering quality; remember that EPPs may still elect to use the 2.75 or another GPA as their own requirement.  We are simply asking that EPPs have that flexibility rather than the state dictating an arbitrary GPA.  Please contact your pk-12 partners for their comments as well; the Board is very interested in school personnel’s perception of this change.

If you have not already done so, we encourage representatives from your programs and your PK-12 partner districts to submit comments that help the Board understand impacts of removing the cumulative GPA requirement on potential candidates, districts, and the field of education in Missouri. You can follow these links for details of the proposals presented at the Missouri State Board of Education meeting (see Action Items E-M on the linked agenda for details), and approved for publication in the Missouri Register (see the Dec. 1, 2020 edition, pp. 1863-1868). Instructions for submitting comments, taken from the proposals linked above, are:

Anyone may file a statement in support of or in opposition to this proposed amendment with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Attention: Dr. Paul Katnik, Assistant Commissioner, Office of Educator Quality, PO Box 480, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0480 or by email to educatorquality@dese.mo.gov. To be considered, comments must be received within thirty (30) days after publication of this notice in the Missouri Register. No public hearing is scheduled.
